Charles Jaynes, one of two men convicted in the 1997 abduction and murder of 10-year-old Jeffrey Curley appeared in court today seeking to legally change his name.
Jaynes stood in front of a Brockton District Court Judge to argue that his "old human name" is offensive to his new Wiccan beliefs. If the petition is granted, Jaynes will be known as Manasseh Invictus Auric Thutmose V.
Jeffrey Curley's father Robert says this name change is nothing more than a pattern of nefariously motivated deceptions.
"He wants to change his name. he wants to get parole. And that's the dangerous thing about change" said Curley, "At the time of his arrest, when he murdered Jeffrey, he had 75 warrants for his arrest, he had an apartment in Manchester, NH under an alias of Anthony Scaccia, he had a drivers license under an alias. He's a master of this fraud."
Jaynes is serving a life sentence for kidnapping Jeffrey Curley, stuffing gasoline soaked rags down the 10-year-old's mouth, then killing the boy as he fought off Jaynes and his partner Salvatore Sicari's sexual advances. Robert Curley, who faced his son's killer in the courtroom, wants Jaynes' name forever attached to the heinous acts he committed.
"He's a con man. He's not a dummy. He knows what he's doing. And he's very, very dangerous. He's a self admitted necrophiliac. He's a murderer. He's a child molester. He's the worst of the worst." said Curley, who worries about the possibility Jaynes may one day be released from prison, "In his mind, he thinks he's going to be paroled someday. And when he does, he's just going to go right back to what he was doing before. He's a child molester. That's not something he's going to grow out of."
The judge will rule on Jaynes' petition within 30 days.
