Election season is finally over, and while the lion's share of the attention went to the presidential race and the balance of power on Capitol Hill, a quiet battle over the future of our food was being waged in California. There, voters decided whether to require that all genetically engineered foods — often called GMOs — be labeled as such. As we know, California has long been a legal trend setter. They were the first state to ban smoking in restaurants, require bike helmets and legalize medical marijuana. Many of those laws eventually made their way to other states, including right here in Massachusetts. So how did the people of the Golden State vote? And what does it mean for the rest of us?
