Go Places

Television has always been about connection, and it has an unmatched ability to draw people in.

For over 60 years, WGBH has harnessed that quality, using TV to connect audiences to new places and ideas. Our TV news productions give viewers the opportunity to go beyond headlines. Science programs bring viewers to the bottom of the ocean or the outskirts of the galaxy, making distant worlds feel immediate and enchanting. Transporting dramas give viewers the chance to explore classic literature and modern stories with the world’s most talented actors. History programs remind us how recent the past was, while lovable characters on kids’ shows give children the tools to mold the future.

WGBH is committed to making knowledge available to all who pursue it, and radio is the bedrock we’re built on. Few media are as egalitarian as radio, offering tremendous reach with few barriers.

Because we’re constantly working to make knowledge accessible, we prioritize robust news coverage—both local and national—on 89.7, to the delight of an audience that's increasingly hungry for informed and civil conversation. We use our reach to bring world-class musical performances to our audiences on 99.5. And we tell the stories that matter to our communities with the sharp insight they've come to expect. There are many reasons why stories don’t get told. Perhaps a story is too complex, or the audience too small. Maybe the story requires multiple chapters. Maybe it’s too dangerous to tell.

Podcasts increase our storytelling freedom. Our podcasts examine pressing issues with care, provide behind-the-scenes looks at our most popular productions, and inspire audiences with ideas and insight they can’t get anywhere else. Podcasts allow us to do justice to all of our reporting, while letting our audiences experience the rapture of a great story, wherever our listeners find themselves.

The web allows us to disseminate our own content to the widest possible audience, but just as importantly, it strengthens our already-robust programs. With the help of the web, we regularly add footage, articles, and games that deepen viewers’ connections to our stories. Through the web, we grant audiences access to public media from across the decades, such as the content in our online archives. And it helps us reach underresourced children through online programs that millions of kids use to enrich their learning.

With apps, we can meet our audiences wherever they are.

Children, most of whom are now digital natives, can use our apps to learn at their own pace and see the world in a more expansive way. Our radio listeners can find our award-winning news coverage, wide variety of music, and hyperlocal content right on their preferred devices.

Events
Gathering knowledge

Our festivals, concerts and screenings offer a direct connection to our audiences, and interacting with them is a constant source of delight. The opportunity to share our space and knowledge with our communities is one reason we host events. But we primarily host them because they inspire active learning.

Events give us the chance to talk to a neighbor we may have never met. Screenings invite audiences to engage with our thought-provoking films. Period costume masquerade balls and live tapings at our Brighton studios bring the public together for experiences that allow everyone to ask questions and find out something new. Learning together is one of life’s purest joys, and WGBH’s events ensure that everyone has the opportunity to do so.
