(Boston, MA - October 1, 2024) – Boston public media producer GBH today announced that Sam Brewer will step into the role of General Manager of GBH Music. Brewer previously served as deputy general manager for GBH Music, GBH’s award-winning classical music and jazz enterprise, including CRB Classical 99.5, Jazz on 89.7, and classical.org.

Brewer will lead the team responsible for the 24/7 music programming and operations of CRB Classical 99.5, which features more than 50 annual broadcasts of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and more than 20 In Concert broadcasts showcasing the rich musical offerings in and around Boston. He will also oversee GBH Music’s digital strategy, partnerships, live-hosted jazz programming on 89.7, and a vibrant series of live, streaming, and televised music performances recorded in GBH’s acoustically renowned Fraser Performance Studio and at the Boston Public Library.

“Sam brings to GBH Music a deep understanding of how audiences engage with music and a forward-thinking approach to forging partnerships to introduce classical and jazz programming to new listeners,” said Susan Goldberg, president and CEO of GBH. “With his extensive experience in communications, public media, and classical music, he is uniquely positioned to lead and grow GBH Music’s initiatives across multiple platforms.

Brewer joined GBH in 2018 as the assistant director of media relations, later serving as associate director. Brewer transitioned to the role of deputy general manager of GBH Music in 2023. Prior to GBH, he worked at the Boston Symphony Orchestra as a senior publicist. He also ran an independent public relations and photography business specializing in classical music.

“The talented and passionate producers, hosts, programmers, and recording engineers behind GBH Music are the key to its success,” Brewer said. “Together, we are committed to expanding our audience and sharing the joy of music with as many people as possible.”

Brewer assumes the general manager role on October 1, succeeding Anthony Rudel, who announced earlier this year that he would step down on September 30. Rudel first joined WCRB as station manager in 2014. He tripled the station’s listenership over a decade, oversaw the production of hundreds of events and broadcasts, and formed GBH Music in 2020. Rudel mentored Brewer in all aspects of GBH Music during a yearlong transition.
