Boston (June 6, 2022) - Boston public media producer GBH has been honored with six Boston/New England Emmy® Awards recognizing major GBH News initiatives and the work of individual contributors across the organization. The awards were presented on June 4 by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Boston/New England Chapter. NATAS is dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television, the fostering of creative leadership in the television industry, and the encouragement of excellence in artistic, educational, cultural and technical progress. The wins follow 13 nominations received by GBH in April 2022.

“I am thrilled by this recognition of the visionary journalistic work taking place at GBH News,” said Jon Abbott, GBH President and CEO. “These accolades are a testament to our commitment to quality programming and the hard work and dedication of the creative people behind each of these projects.”

GBH News received six Emmy awards for its work over the past year. In the “Serious Feature” category, The Big Quit: Why I’m Moving On won for its exploration of how people made significant life changes as COVID disrupted their lives. Class of COVID, a documentary that followed three local students’ adaptation to learning during COVID won in the “Education and Schools” category. Both of these projects were led by GBH’s Director of Special Projects, Stephanie Leydon. Additionally, in the “Politics and Government” category, Boston’s Race Into History was recognized for its examination of the city’s journey to electing its first woman and Asian American mayor. The Curiosity Desk also won the “Informational and Instructional” category for its relaunch as a multiplatform weekly series. Jared Bowen, GBH’s Executive Arts Editor and the host of Open Studio with Jared Bowen won in the “Writer - Long-Form Content” category and GBH’s Associate Creative Director, Elias Mallette, received the award in the “Graphic Arts - Art Direction” category for his work on The Curiosity Desk.
