Fund will advance GBH’s long-standing commitment to leveling the playing field of equity in education

Boston, MA (March 1, 2022) – With an eye towards addressing the critical need for inclusive, research-based, widely-accessible quality children’s resources, GBH, the nation’s largest public media producer, has launched the GBH Kids Catalyst Fund. This focused fundraising initiative will support the Foundation’s long-standing commitment to developing learning media approaches that will connect with and serve a broad and diverse audience and help close the learning gaps for marginalized communities.

“Education is at the very core of our mission, supporting learning and development of both young children and youth in our community,” said Jon Abbott, President and CEO of GBH. “Yet we know that not all children have access to equitable learning resources. The GBH Kids Catalyst Fund will help us develop the educational media and learning tools that can bridge the gaps, helping all children feel represented as they become informed citizens.”

GBH reaches millions of children, families, and teachers in Boston and across the country through engaging and interactive content available for free across multiple platforms. In tandem with PBS, GBH co-founded and co-managesPBS LearningMedia, a digital learning service with thousands of free, standards-aligned videos, interactives, and lesson plans spanning all subjects for K-12 teachers and students.

Gifts to the GBH Kids Catalyst Fund will allow GBH to continue to produce both popular programming such as Molly of Denali, High School Quiz Show, and Arthur, as well as create new quality educational resources that represent diverse cultures and perspectives, vastly increasing the potential for educational impact at home and in school.

“Children are the future of our country. GBH and all public media can play a powerful role in ensuring every child has access to the resources they need to succeed,” continued Abbott.
