Teams will square off virtually on Season 13 of the televised academic tournament

BOSTON (November 15, 2021) – High School Quiz Show® has revealed the 17 Massachusetts high schools that will compete on Season 13 of the televised academic tournament from Boston public media producer GBH. These teams received the highest scores from among a total of 72 teams from across the state that participated in the program’s second virtual Super Sunday qualifying event. Among the schools are three first-time competitors, as well as defending champion Belmont High School.

Emmy award-winning radio personality Billy Costa returns to host Season 13, which will again be produced using a hybrid model. Teams of four will play remotely as Costa moderates from GBH studios in Brighton. The new season of High School Quiz Show will premiere Saturday, February 5 at 6pm ET on GBH 2 and on High School Quiz Show’s YouTube channel.

“We’re so pleased to be able to join together with communities and schools across the Commonwealth to celebrate the hard work and perseverance of our high school students,” said Executive Producer Hillary Wells. “High School Quiz Show serves as a dedicated space for sharing the joy in learning and the pride of sportsmanship. We invite viewers from Massachusetts and across the country to follow the journey and support their favorite teams starting with the premiere in February.”

High School Quiz Show is a fast-paced, bracketed academic competition for teams of Massachusetts high school students, produced by GBH. Aside from Jeopardy!, High School Quiz Show is the most popular academic quiz show on American television. Over 12 previous seasons, more than 700 students from over 70 schools across the Commonwealth have competed on the program.

The 15 teams with the highest scores from Super Sunday qualified immediately for a spot in the competition bracket. The final spot in the bracket will be determined through a Wild Card showdown between the two teams with the next-highest scores that have not been previously featured on the show, or haven’t competed in five or more years. This year those schools are Buckingham Browne & Nichols and Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.

Among the top 17 qualifiers are returning Season 9 champion Andover High School, Lexington High School, which took home the trophy in Seasons 7 and 8, and defending Season 12 champion Belmont High School. Three teams will make their High School Quiz Show debuts: Canton High School, Notre Dame Academy and Buckingham Browne & Nichols.
