In celebration of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, tonight WGBH hosts a live interview with the first-ever Asian American US Cabinet Secretary, Norman Mineta. In a rare example of bipartisanship, he served as the Secretary of Commerce in the Clinton administration and as President George W. Bush’s Secretary of Transportation. The US-born son of Japanese immigrants, Secretary Mineta became the first Asian American mayor of a major city, San Jose, California. As a child, he was forced into a US World War II internment camp and later led the way for an apology from the US government and redress for Japanese Americans. At the event will be a display in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad, built in great measure by Asian Americans. Find out more and watch the inteview live on Facebook starting at 6:24pm.
