Commonly traced to a 1621 feast in nearby Plimoth, Thanksgiving has roots dating back to harvest festivals and religious days of fasting that the Pilgrims brought over from Europe, along with similar expressions of thanks for nature’s bounty by the indigenous population.

Today, Americans strive to put aside their differences and pause to reflect on their good fortune, no matter the measure, and share what they can with those in need.
