Theosophical Society in Atlanta

The Theosophical Society in Atlanta is a local chartered lodge of the Theosophical Society in America and the International Theosophical Society (Adyar). The Theosophical Society is a worldwide organization that was founded in New York on November 17, 1875. The Society seeks to bring people together; to reconcile the religions, philosophies, and sciences of both East and West; and to increase awareness of the Inner Reality present in every human being. As individuals we come together to share our diverse viewpoints, but we are also united by our acceptance of its objects (listed below), by our dedication to promoting brotherhood, and by our efforts to foster religious understanding and cooperation. We hold that truth should be sought by study, reflection and service, and not imposed by authority as a dogma. Peace is our watchword, as truth is our aim. The Atlanta Lodge was founded on November 23, 1916 with twenty-six charter members. Over the years we have explored many themes in science, religion, and philosophy. Please join us; we welcome all newcomers and perspectives and walks of life.

  • Plastic surgeon Susan E. Kolb explains how Noetic Science, through the use our intuitive powers, can enable us to protect ourselves from many dangers in our everyday lives. The word "noetic" comes from the ancient Greek nous, for which there is no exact equivalent in English. It refers to "inner knowing" or "intuitive consciousness"--direct and immediate access to knowledge beyond what is available to our normal senses and power of reason. Noetic sciences are explorations into the nature and potentials of consciousness using multiple ways of knowing--including intuition, feeling, reason, and the senses. Noetic sciences explore the "inner cosmos" of the mind (consciousness, soul, spirit) and how it relates to the "outer cosmos" of the physical world.
