This week, WGBH News’ Arts Editor Jared Bowen reviews the touring Broadway production of “A Bronx Tale” and takes a tour of the new Hood Museum of Art in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Get ready to enter a raucous 1960’s New York in the touring Broadway musical “A Bronx Tale.” Based on the one-man play and film by Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri, “A Bronx Tale” is the coming-of-age story of Calogero Anello, a Bronx native who grows up torn between his working-class family and the allure of the mobsters that run his neighborhood.
“A Bronx Tale is a hugely absorbing one,” says Jared. “A story of father figures who find a way to stand tall for their sons.”
The Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College has reopened after an almost three-year, $50 million renovation and expansion — and it’s changing the way we experience art. The free museum boasts one of the largest university collections in the country with more than 70,000 objects. The Hood’s new facility doubles the museum’s square footage, adding six new galleries as well as three classrooms, allowing the museum to rotate and showcase more of its expansive collection with a focus on international and contemporary art.
“Our overall goal was to change the way the story of art is told,” said museum director John Stomberg. “Rather than telling one large, grand narrative, we've told 16 episodes, each of which are exciting and exhilarating in their own way. … Each one lives on its own, but also has connections with each other.”
