MASS MoCA Xu Bing: Phoenix on view through October 27th; Sol LeWitt: A Wall Drawing Retrospective on view through 2033

Chinese artist Xu Bing spent two years creating his newest work, Phoenix. Featuring two monumental birds fabricated entirely from materials harvested from construction sites in urban China, the exhibit is at once fierce and strangely beautiful, bearing witness to the complex interconnection between labor, history, commercial development, and the rapid accumulation of wealth in today's China.

Sol LeWitt: A Wall Drawing Retrospective comprises 105 of LeWitt’s large-scale wall drawings, spanning the artist’s career from 1969 to 2007. These occupy nearly an acre of specially built interior walls that have been installed—per LeWitt’s own specifications—over three stories of a historic mill building situated at the heart of MASS MoCA’s campus.

The performance will move your heart and touch your soul.

Elysium opens in theaters Friday.

In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined planet. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission—one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces—but if he succeeds, he could save not only his life, but millions of people on Earth as well.
