This week, WGBH News launched a new initiative. It’s called, "Hear at the Library." And it’s our chance to hear from you on topics and themes in the news.

With America set to inaugurate a new President on Friday, we spoke with dozens of people from all walks of life at the WGBH Studio at the Boston Public Library. They shared with us their thoughts on the topic of leadership. Here’s some of what we heard.

"Leadership to me is the ability to lead other people and to inspire them and to bring them to their own level of greatness."
JOHN CARVER, Winthrop

"I think what leadership is today is really being fair and true to the values of our society, speaking about them authentically – not necessarily in fancy words – but being able to articulate with substance, 'what are your values?'"
HILLARY MARCUS, Jamaica Plain

"I think there is, sometimes, a more artificial approach or branded approach [to leadership]. And somehow it doesn't feel as real...and you feel like you're being manipulated, or it's kind of manufactured."
JEFF SMITH, Newton

"I'm studying to be a Catholic priest. One of my beliefs and philosophies is leading by example."
TONY MORENO, Mission Hill

"I believe in integrity. I really put a lot on that. I think of the Hubert Humphreys, the Harry Trumans, Jimmie Carter."
DEBORAH LOUISE ROSSI, Brighton

"Fairness. I really respect fairness. In this day and age when everybody is so divided and partisan...nobody is looking to be fair they're just looking to be heard and to be right."
WILLIE EPITER-SMITH, Boston
