A hit in London, off-Broadway, and now in Boston, the play Tribes is about a British family who refuses to see their son's deafness as anything but a handicap. 

SpeakEasy Stage Company has even extended the run of its season-opener one more week, through Oct. 19

WGBH Arts Editor Jared Bowen talked to Greater Boston host Emily Rooney about why the play has resonated with the audience. And Judy Vreeland, the executive director of The Learning Center for the Deaf, discussed with them the debate in the deaf community around using spoken English and American Sign Language.
