Joe Hanson Ph.D., is a science writer, biologist, educator, and YouTube creator. This is his first season hosting High School Quiz Show.

Joe is the creator and host of Be Smart, an award-winning science education show from PBS that celebrates curiosity and the pleasure of finding things out. Be Smart has more than 5 million subscribers across all platforms and more than half a billion views on YouTube. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, and his science writing has been published by WIRED, Nautilus, Scientific American and Texas Monthly.

“I am unbelievably excited to host the 15th season of High School Quiz Show and to have the opportunity to celebrate curiosity and the pleasure of finding things out, the very premise of Be Smart, within a new format and community,” said Hanson. “I was the captain of my junior high academic team and feel as though life has come full circle. I look forward to getting to know this season’s coaches, team members, and school communities and to an exciting competition amidst so many others who know that it’s okay to be smart!”
