The fatal attack on an elderly Thai man walking in San Francisco earlier this year sparked outcries across the nation from Asian Americans pained both by his senseless death and by a longer-simmering problem of anti-Asian sentiment, harassment and violence — some of it deadly — in the U.S. over the past year.
