While the expansion of unemployment benefits, along with those federal relief checks, has led to a slight and temporary decrease in the national poverty rate during coronavirus, concerns remain about what happens if and when that money runs out, as unemployment remains high and Republicans in Congress question whether new stimulus checks are needed.
