Out With The Old And In With The New In Politics, But Where Did It Start?

There’s been a lot of talk in the last few weeks about the new wave of next-generation politicians making their way into cities, towns and districts across the country. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described 28-year-old Democratic Socialist, became the poster child of the movement in June when she beat powerful 10-term incumbent Congressman Joe Crowley in the New York primary. Closer to home, we have Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley vying to unseat 10-term Congressman Michael Capuano in the 7th district and Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim going up against 6-term incumbent Secretary of State Bill Galvin. But a year and a half after the election of another political newcomer, President Donald Trump, is this really a new phenomenon?
