Many Cape Cod businesses are celebrating the start of summer this weekend with fewer restrictions and more reservations.

According to Wendy Northcross, the CEO of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, advance bookings are up this year, which is great news for a region that made due last year in the heat of the pandemic. Most COVID-19 restrictions are relaxing on Saturday, but Northcross says some accommodations made for the pandemic might be here to stay, things like more outdoor dining, curbside pick-up and outdoor movies.

"With the governor's lifting of COVID-19 capacity restrictions for the most part as of this weekend, it just feels a lot more like a normal kick-off of the season," said Northcross. "It just feels like we can breathe again."

Speaking of kicking off, the regions first's in-person theater performance is set to do just that next week. "The Mom Show" is a one man show featuring Michael Levin, who tells the story of his mother's life as a refuge in World War Two — and beyond. It is set to run at Arlington's Regent Theatre.
