In 2014, nearly everyone we all knew was taking part to raise money for ALS awareness, and it continued last year, and again, this year. Then, last week, we found out, it's made a big difference.
A team funded by the money that campaign raised has found a gene, which appears to contribute to ALS, a progressive, neurodegenerative disease which attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Scientists say identifying that gene could lead to new treatments. ALS Research Scientist John Landers, PhD. and Pete Frates’ brother, Andrew Frates ( @AndrewFrates_ ), who inspired the challenge, joined Jim to discuss.
