Among the dead in yesterday's shooting of 10 Dallas police office—5 of whom died—was newly married transit police officer Brent Thompson.

MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan joined Jim Braude and Margery Eagan on Boston Public Radio to discuss the shooting's aftermath and its impact on the law enforcement community.

"It is such a challenging time for law enforcement profession," Sullivan said. "Right now is the time to calm, take a step back, and let’s get away from the divisiveness."

Sullivan echoed the words of President Barack Obama speaking from Warsaw yesterday by emphasizing that it was possible to both support law enforcement and point out racial biases in the criminal justice system.

"In my heart, I believe it is not a contradiction to support your local law enforcement but also advocate to rid out any biases that may exist. It’s not a contradiction," Sullivan said.
