Taunton's Morton Hospital is cutting ties with a contractor that, per state law, evaluates patients covered by MassHealth who go to emergency rooms with mental health concerns. It comes in the wake of Tuesday night's violence in Taunton, in which Arthur DaRosa killed two and injured several others before being killed himself. The rampage came just hours after DaRosa was evaluated at Morton Hospital by that contractor after expressing suicidal thoughts. The hospital says that it should be up to staff, not contractors, to perform psychological evaluations. WGBH All Things Considered host Barbara Howard spoke with Megan Wiechnik, Helpline Director for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, about the third-party mental health evaluations.
