It may be hard to believe from looking out at the rainy weather today, but summer is almost here—and that means it's time to pick a summer read to keep handy in your beach bag (or by your nightstand, if you're more of the staycation type.)

The first pick of the season for the BPR Book Club is "An Object of Beauty" by Steve Martin (yes, that Steve Martin!) It's a novel about an ambitious young woman launching her career in the New York City art world.

Here's how the Book Club works: finish reading "An Object of Beauty" by Thursday, June 16 and then tune into Boston Public Radio that day. Co-hosts Jim Braude and Margery Eagan—as well as our Book Club master of ceremonies Alex Beam—will be there to field your calls and get the discussion going. (You can also email us your reactions at bpr@wgbh.org.)

Get reading! Don't forget—we'll be discussing "Heartburn" on Thursday, June 16. To hear more from Alex Beam, tune in above.
