In 17 states across the country, there are laws in place that protect transgender citizens from discrimination in public accommodations, hotels, libraries, bathrooms. There are currently bills on Beacon Hill in the House and one in the Senate that would do the same.

The House speaker and Senate leader have both signaled their support for such protections, but attention these days is centered on our governor, who said on Boston Public Radio "I want to give the legislature the ability to deliberate this." And continued, "but I take tremendous pride in the fact that on many of these issues, I’ve been on what I would describe as the right side of history."

So what is that right side of history here? Legal Counsel for Massachusetts Family Institute  Jonathan Alexandre  and Transgender Activist  Lorelei Erisis  ( @Erisis ) debate both sides of the measure.
