Police and firefighters have evacuated a multistory bank office building in Lynn after reports of an explosion in an electrical room.

Lt. Chris Kelly of the Lynn Police Department said police received reports of a possible transformer explosion at the Eastern Bank building, located on Market St. around 10:30 a.m. Despite the large number of people, the scene was “pretty orderly,” Kelly said.

"The officers on scene did an excellent job coordinating with the fire department, and the sergeants on scene, with the other officers, did a pretty good job getting the people moved from the building filled with smoke over to the college safely," Kelly said.

About 500 people were evacuated to North Shore Community College across the street. There is only one injury reported at this time. A woman fell off a curb during the evacuation and requested an ambulance.
