White supremacist activity and hate crimes are on the rise in the United States and here in Massachusetts. Some groups, such as the Patriot Front, are organizing covertly so that law enforcement cannot track down their plans for marches or demonstrations, according to U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Rachael Rollins.

The white supremacist group Patriot Front marched through the streets of Boston on July 2 and is accused of injuring a Black man in an altercation.

While some groups organize more publicly on social media, Patriot Front does not, which makes it harder for law enforcement to monitor their actions, Rollins told Jim Braude on Greater Boston.

"These individuals aren't engaging in that type of overt behavior right now, and so there are times they are not known to law enforcement until they actually arrive," Rollins said.

"They are actively working to be covert so that they will not be infiltrated, they will not be stopped by law enforcement," she added.

Rollins said she and other law enforcement officials are working on a strategic plan to combat these acts so that residents can feel safe. "I don't want a reactive law enforcement Jim, I want a proactive law enforcement," Rollins said.
