For much of his life and until the day he died last month, Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Ralph Gants was dedicated to serving the people of the commonwealth. One of his efforts focused on fully funding the Rental Assistance for Families in Transition program, or RAFT. The program is a state-funded homeless prevention program that gives short-term financial assistance to low-income families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. And now Deborah Ramirez, a law professor at Northeastern University and Gants’ widow, hopes to see that work through to the end. She joined Jim Braude, along with Lewis Finfer, co-director of the Mass. Communities Action Network, to discuss.
