As Black Lives Matter protests spread across the country earlier this summer, the grocery store chain Whole Foods put a statement on its website in support. Yet when workers at a Whole Foods in Cambridge and in other locations nationwide wore masks with the same slogan, they were told to take them off or be sent home, with the company citing its policy against clothing with messages. The issue has sparked protests at store locations and led to a class-action lawsuit by employees who say the company is violating their civil rights.
