Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker rode the Red Line Monday morning, ending years of his absence on the T.
"Boston Globe" Columnist Shirley Leung joined Boston Public Radio Wednesday to talk about the significance of Baker's public commute.
"I'm not the only one who has called for him to ride the T," she said. "People were really surprised — I talked to a woman who actually snapped a photo, saying she couldn't believe it was Charlie Baker on the T."
Leung explained why it's important for public officials to use public transportation.
"Gov. Dukakis rode the T regularly and said what was great about riding the T was that he knew if there were problems. Then he would report them, so the problems would get fixed faster," she said. "If you were the transportation director, and the boss rides the T every day, you're going to make sure you have flawless service."
