"Boston Globe" business columnist Shirley Leung joined Boston Public Radio on Thursday to speak about the health of the economy during the spread of the coronavirus.
"I think there's more people thinking there could be a recession," she said. "There will definitely be a slow down globally, there will probably be a slow down in the U.S. economy, but people continue to believe the fundamentals of economy are still strong."
Local New England based companies like GE, iRobot, Boston Scientific and Hasbro have some parts of their business within China, and are feeling the effects, Leung said.
"Parts of China have been shut down and so you're starting to see that it's going to have a negative impact on revenue for the first quarter, maybe the second quarter, because there's just not a lot of business activity in China because of the virus."
