Last week, conservative pundit Bill O'Reilly came under fire for comments he made about Rep. Maxine Waters of California.
Asked on 'Fox and Friends' to respond to a video of Waters defending criticism of President Donald Trump,O'Reilly responded: "I didn't hear a word she said. I was looking at the James Brown wig."
Joining Boston Public Radio to weigh in on this and other moral issues of the day were Reverends Irene Monroe and Emmett Price, who both condemned O'Reilly's comments. Monroe is a syndicated religion columnist, and Price is a professor and Founding Executive Directorof the Institute for the Study of the Black Christian Experience at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
"It's absolutely rude and disrespectful, and extremely dangerous," said Price, who added that while he was growing up in Los Angeles, Calif., Waters was a hero to him and other young people getting involved in politics and activism.
"She's an iconic role model ... She's a living example that shows us and a younger generation what it is to be a black female politician," Monroe agreed. "He demeaned her in the most worst way that you can."
