Calderwood Studio

Calderwood Studio’s size, location, convenience, facilities and crew attract producers and companies from across the U.S. and worldwide. There’s no better equipped space in Boston for film and video production, live programming, and global satellite broadcast.

Fraser Performance Studio

An Empty Fraser Studio with a TV Camera

Fraser is New England’s largest and most acoustically perfect music recording studio. Designed as a venue for the many live performances produced by GBH Music, the studio is the ideal creative location for clients seeking superior audio services in a stunning space. Fraser is another great film or tv set option within the building.

Yawkey Theater

An exquisite 206-seat theater with 4k/HD Digital Cinema projector, MPA compliant DCP server for theatrical screening, 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound, and built-in HD 4-camera switching package. Yawkey Theater is ideal for video presentations, panel discussions, performances, or just a different looking set. Live streaming built in.

The Atrium is a flexible space that can be used for events, as a set backdrop, or as a staging area for larger productions.

Control Rooms

Two identical production control rooms with Grass Valley Karrera switchers and up to four channels of Zoom integration. Two linked audio mix rooms with SSL 300 control surfaces. Video village features up to 24-channels of video record and playback, video shading and robotics controls.

Color Grading/Online Edit

From 30-second promos to feature-length films, our colorists view every shot with an eye to achieving our clients’ creative vision. And we helped PBS write its standards, so we’ve got the technical side down to an art.

Mix + Sound

Each week the OutPost mixes programs for the best producers in the business. We’ve worked on thousands of films, from features to shorts. Our clients include independent producers and for PBS — Frontline, NOVA, American Experience - the shows that educate and inform, break news & win Emmys.

Ingest/Encode/Duplication

The OutPost handles all manner of file ingest and encoding, closed captioning to tape or file, Blu-Ray and DVD duplication, and performs technical evaluations to ensure your final project meet specifications.

  • Technical Evaluation for network delivery (PBS, Netflix, Discovery, etc)
  • Alchemist motion-compensated frame-rate conversion and up or downscaling
  • DCP creation for festival/theater screening
  • Blu-Ray & DVD duplication
  • Tape digitizing and duplication to/from most formats (HDCAM, XDCAM, DVCPro HD,  1”, 2", Beta, DigiBeta, D5, D3, MiniDV, DVCam)

Offline Editing

Our 25 editing suites are fitted out with best-in-class mix, grading, and finishing equipment. Producers from PBS and across the industry rent suites by the week, project or long-term contract, working independently or with one of our editors. OutPost staff serve as technical and workflow consultants as needed. Mac or Windows-based Avid or Premiere suites available as on-premises rooms or fully virtual with producer/director viewing access.

Tim is an acclaimed film and television producer who has worked as a director, producer, cinematographer, editor, and motion picture sound editor.

Terry Quinn
Senior Operations Manager - Studio and EFP
Terry runs the show in our studios. She is the go-to person for issues large and small, her personal touch with clients and crew alike make our productions run smoothly.

Beth Godlin Lillis
Post-Production Operations Manager
Beth manages all aspects of the OutPost’s daily operation and takes care of client scheduling.

Mary Kate DeSantis
Production Manager
Mary Kate manages all production aspects for broadcasts, live streams, and recorded programs in our facilities. As an experienced multi-tasker, you will often find her coordinating with clients and scheduling crews between her runs to the Control Rooms and the Studios.

Bill Francis
Senior Technical Director
Bill is our lead Technical Director and oversees the studios and control rooms, technical planning, and execution of productions.

Phil Reilly
Lighting Director and Scenics Manager
In addition to his extraordinary skill as a Lighting Director, Phil also takes care of all of our scenic needs. He'll design your lighting plot, your set, and make sure it gets done right.

Steve Baracsi
Television Engineer
Steve is involved in all aspects of technical television production and evaluates GBH national and local productions to ensure they meet PBS’ technical specifications.

Howard Powell
Cinematographer
Whether covering news and current events or arts and entertainment, and no matter the venue or the challenge, Howard gets the shot.

Jim is a finishing specialist who has color graded and on-lined hundreds of PBS programs including Frontline, NOVA, American Experience and Design Squad.

Sound Mixer
Jim is a sound master, with work spanning TV, feature films, and award-winning documentaries.

Dan Lesiw
Sound Mixer
Dan is an audio wizard for all seasons: post, studio, and live satellite operations.

Chris Anderson
Sound Mixer
Chris will mix your film or documentary, handle your Comrex session, or manage a live studio recording. Yes, he does it all.

Deb Holland brings her years of experience as a producer, director, editor, and videographer to OutPost projects large and not so large.

Lindsey is a talented editor that works extensively with all of our GBH productions.

Joey Mullin
Editor
Joey is a post-production Swiss army knife. In addition to editing and graphics he is an expert in media infrastructure. When not sequestered in an edit suite he can usually be found at the movies.

Michael Tivey
Ingest and Duplication Engineer
Mike is a format wizard. He can turn almost anything into almost anything else. Think you can stump him?
