In 1970, the first Earth Day was organized to raise awareness about oil spills, pollution, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, the loss of wilderness, and the extinction of wildlife. Americans began to promote practices that would lead to a healthy, sustainable environment. The movement led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts.

Today’s mural looks at our planet from two very different perspectives. With the big picture in mind, Here’s how WGBH does our part to create a cleaner, greener world!
