On November 10, the Model of Architecture Serving Society (MASS) presented the first Abundant Futures / Live symposium at the Institute of Contemporary Art / Boston. Community leaders, creatives, and philanthropists convened for a daylong, immersive cultural gathering of talks, performances, and interactive experiences.
GBH, the public media partner for the event, created a Youtube playlist of every main session and breakout discussion recorded that day — a view into the conference via archived videos from the Forum Network. J
A star-filled slate of speakers includes Ezra Klein, Amy Cuddy, Moshe Safdie, and local thought leaders Jha D Amazi, Nashira Baril, Megan Minoka Hill, and Imari K. Paris Jeffries. Together they imagine a world where wellbeing, belonging, and flourishing are shared foundations of an abundant future.
GBH President and CEO Susan Goldberg spoke in the second session. Here's the program.
The day’s events are guided by three essential themes:
- Wellbeing asks how we nurture the vitality of body and mind for every generation.
- Belonging explores how we create communities of trust, memory, and shared purpose.
- Flourishing challenges us to imagine futures where people and the planet thrive together.
A MASS definition of abundance:Abundance is not measured by accumulation, but by equilibrium—when all species, including our own, thrive in relation to one another.
Rooted in leading research, visionary thinking, and deep local knowledge and expertise, MASS creates civic spaces that set new standards for design excellence.
