WGBH Executive Arts Editor Jared Bowen joined Boston Public Radio Wednesday and reviewed the upcoming film "The Lighthouse."

"This, I think, is one of the best films of the year," Bowen said. "Because of the golden age of television, at this point film has to do something really staggering and really striking and have some kind of a different voice, otherwise we're at home watching really good stories on television. And 'The Lighthouse' is one of those films."

The movie follows two lighthouse keepers in New England in the 1890s, Bowen explained. "Willem Defoe and Robert Pattinson play crusty lighthouse keepers, and it really becomes a character study of the two men."
