Today is Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of Black people from slavery in the US. It is a day to celebrate Black achievements, and also signifies how much more work there is to do to end systemic racism and achieve equity.
WGBH has a large inventory of programs that speak to the present and pressing conversation about the Black experience in America from both contemporary and historical perspectives. We’re committed to not only featuring films that look at the injustices and struggles that Black Americans have faced and continue to face, but also to showcase stories of achievement, accomplishment and contribution.
Below are some of the films that will help provide context and understanding in the journey forward as the struggle for freedom continues. This curated collection is just one part of a larger, multi-platform effort that includes streaming, radio, digital and social—to explore what it means to be Black in America.
