Sudhir A. Venkhatesh

professor, sociology, Columbia University

Sudhir A. Venkhatesh is a professor of sociology at Columbia University, and is currently director of the Center for Urban Research and Policy, and director of the Charles H. Revson Fellowship Program, both at Columbia University. He was born in India and holds a PhD in sociology from the University of Chicago. Venkhatesh studies urban neighborhoods in the United States and in Paris, France. His most recent book is *Gang Leader for a Day*, and he contributed to the section on drug dealers in Steven Levitt’s book *Freakonomics*.
