Philip Hewat-Jaboor

Philip Hewat-Jaboor advises private collectors, museums and designers on buying and selling a wide range of paintings, furniture and works of art. Starting his career at Sotheby's Belgravia in 1972, he specialised in 19th century furniture and works of art. Subsequently at Sotheby's he concentrated on 18th century French and English furniture before developing their client advisory services department. He opened his consultancy business in 1982 with the aim of providing totally independent advice to new collectors keen to acquire works of art. Recommendations are offered on all aspects of acquisition or sale, and arrangements are also made for all ancillary services, such as conservation or restoration, shipping, insurance and photography. As an independent museum consultant he was the inspiration behind, and co-curator of, the exhibition 'William Beckford, An Eye for the Magnificent' held at the Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts in New York in October 2001 and at Dulwich Picture Gallery in 2002. He has recently curated the exhibition Thomas Hope: Regency Designer held at the Victoria and Albert Museum from March to June 2008 and then at the Bard Graduate Center in New York from July to November 2008 and co-edited the catalogue. Recently appointed a Percentage for Art Advisor in Jersey, he is now responsible for commissioning contemporary works for new building on the island.
