Johnye Ballenger

instructor, pediatrics, Harvard Medical School

Johnye Ballenger is a pediatrician with a private practice in Cambridge, an instructor in pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, and an Assistant in Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital. Over the past 20 years, Dr. Ballenger has been active at Harvard’s Medical School (HMS). She lectures on topics in child development and adolescent health, and is a senior member of the Inter-Society Multicultural Fellows Committee, as well as the Cross-Cultural Care Committee. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Harold Amos Faculty Diversity award in recognition of her “contributions and commitment to the advancement of diversity at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Dental Medicine.” This past year, Harvard Medical School students selected Dr. Ballenger to receive the American Association of Medical Colleges Humanism in Medicine Award, which honors a medical faculty who exemplifies the qualities of a caring and compassionate mentor in the teaching and advising of medical students. Dr. Ballenger holds a BA from Brown University and an MD from Howard University’s College of Medicine.
