David Simon

creator, executive producer, The Wire

David Simon is the creator and executive producer of HBO's *The Wire*. Simon was born in Washington, DC and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park. For 12 years, Simon worked as a reporter at *The Baltimore Sun*, covering crime stories. He is the author of *Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets*, which was the basis of the NBC series *Homicide: Life on the Street*, and *The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood*, which Simon co-authored with Ed Burns, and was made into an Emmy-award-winning miniseries. Simon presented the pilot of *The Wire* to HBO in 2001 and the show made its debut in June, 2002. It has since run for five seasons to critical acclaim.
