She looked thin and frail and older than her 64 years — today James "Whitey" Bulger's longtime girlfriend Catherine Greig stood in federal court pleading not guilty to one charge of contempt of court.
Greig has refused to testify before a grand jury seeking information on who might have helped Bulger during his 16 years on the lam.
It's criminal contempt which means the case will go to trial — if found guilty, Greig could face several more years in prison added to the eight she is now serving.
When she first walked into the court, Greig's attorney, Kevin Reddington pointed out that her twin sister Barbara McCusker was in the back of the courtroom, and the sisters quickly waved at each other.
Greig pleaded not guilty and as she was being re-handcuffed took a final look over her shoulder to catch a glimpse of her sister. Greig will be back in court November 19 for pre-trial motions.

The longtime girlfriend and fugitive companion of James "Whitey" Bulger is expected in federal court to face a contempt charge for allegedly refusing to tell whether other people helped the Boston mobster during his 16 years on the run.
Catherine Greig is scheduled to make an initial appearance Monday in U.S. District Court.
The 64-year-old Greig already is serving an eight-year sentence for conspiracy to harbor a fugitive, identity fraud and conspiracy to commit identity fraud.
The new indictment alleges that from December 2014 until last month, Greig disobeyed a judge's order to testify before a grand jury in an investigation into "third parties" who assisted and harbored Bulger.
Bulger fled Boston just before being indicted in early 1995. He and Greig were living in Santa Monica, California, when he was captured in 2011.
