Today marks 97 years since World War One ended, and 96 years since we first set aside this day to honor and thank our nation’s veterans, more than 19 million men and women across the U.S.
We have more than 1.3 active duty military members, some in Iraq, Afghanistan and soon, Syria.
But today in Marblehead, Veterans Day Town Hall was held, to which all community members were invited and veterans were asked to speak about their experiences both in combat and at home.
CongressmanSethMoulton(@sethmoulton) organized the event in his hometown of Marblehead. He also served four tours as a Marine in Iraq.
Retired Colonel Andrew Bacevich(@AndrewBacevich), facilitated the event. He served both in Vietnam and Iraq.. and is now a professor emeritus at Boston University.
And Sebastian Junger (@sebastianjunger), the author, filmmaker and journalist who’s covered war for more than 20 years, including in Afghanistan, where he filmed the documentary Restrepo, along with his good friend, Tim Hetherington, who was killed while covering the Libyan Civil War in 2011. Today’s town hall was inspired by an article Junger wrote in Vanity Fair.
