Lawmakers continue their brinskmanship as the January budget deadline approaches. Good news Friday came in the form of a slightly lower November unemployment rate — 7.7 percent, down from 7.9 percent — and a reported 146,000 jobs added over the month. Good economic numbers may not be much consolation if lawmakers bulldoze their way through the so-called "fiscal cliff" deadline.
In Massachusetts, two trial verdicts have yet to be rendered. Former State Treasurer Tim Cahill is on trial for criminal conspiracy charges. Dwayne Moore also awaits judgment for his alleged role in the 2010 Mattapan quadruple-murder.
