As the nation mourns the victims of three mass shootings in less than two weeks in California, Texas, and Ohio, some in the medical field are once again calling for the issue of systemic gun violence to be treated with a public health lens. Doctors point to the fact that gun violence is not given enough research funding to provide comprehensive data about the problem and successful intervention models, in the same manner as smoking and dangerous driving.
