It’s a political race overshadowed by others — including the ones for governor, senate and secretary of state — and today, the candidates for Suffolk County District Attorney took their pitch directly to some of the constituents who would be most affected by their tenure: prisoners. All six candidates vying to succeed outgoing D.A. Dan Conley took questions from inmates at the Suffolk County House of Corrections. The panel was organized by the Massachusetts branch of the American Civil Liberties Union, as part of the group’s “What A Difference A D.A. Makes” campaign — aimed at educating a public that is largely unaware of exactly what a district attorney does.
Jim Braude was joined by former public safety secretary and WGBH contributor Andrea Cabral, who moderated today’s panel, along with Suffolk County Sheriff Steven Tompkins and Rahsaan Hall, director of the Racial Justice Program at the ACLU of Massachusetts.
