Noting the disruption to other sporting events, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has said that the city is closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19. For now, the Boston Marathon is still scheduled to go ahead as planned, but sports reporter Trenni Kusnierek said that there is reason for officials to be concerned about the spread of germs given the variety of events that take place in addition to the race.

“So, you also have the the Hynes Convention Center, you have pasta dinners, you have post race parties, you have a 5K on Saturday, you have the one mile races that you hold,” Kusnierek said during an interview with Boston Public Radio on Wednesday. “These are all valid concerns.”

Kusnierek is an anchor and reporter with NBC Sports Boston.
