Today was deadline day for Congress to come up with a legislative fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program (DACA), which has protected around 700,000 young, undocumented immigrants from deportation. But there has been no movement on legislation since the courts ruled that the Department of Homeland Security must keep renewing DACA permits for now. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnellhas also said he will not be taking up the issue of gun control this week, despite much of the national conversation skewed toward the issue. Is Congress’s partisan paralysis getting worse? Are we in a holding pattern until the midterm elections?
