Last night's historic World Series game wasn't the only place you could find play-by-play color commentary—just look to FBI headquarters, says legal expert and Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz.

Dershowitz told Boston Public Radio Thursday that he believes FBI Director James Comey's letter to Congress about Hillary Clinton's ongoing email investigation stepped over the bounds of his office and into the realm of the political commentator.

"We have the FBI leaking material—which is a crime against law—on ongoing elections," Dershowitz said. "Director Comey has mistaken himself for the play by play baseball announcer. 'Let's give you play by play, every play, every leak!' Behind the scenes, he's the color commentator. That's not the way criminal justice ought to operate in this country."

Dershowitz said Comey's announcement sets a dangerous precedent.

"What I worry about for the future is the way the criminal justice system has been incorporated into politics," he said. "For 20 years I've been railing against the criminalization of policy differences, whether by Republicans or Democrats."
