The state transportation board has named Frank DePaola interim MBTA general manager.

DePaola currently serves as state highway administrator and chief operating officer for the MassachusettsDepartment of Transportation.

The board voted unanimously to have DePaola step into the position on March 4. MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott has said she would stay on until April 11 to ensure a smooth transition.

Scott announced her resignation earlier this month as the MBTA struggled to maintain service during a series of snow storms that dumped more than seven feet of snow on the region.

DePaola has previously served as MBTA assistant general manager for design and construction.

DePaola served in that post until April, 2011, when he was named MassDOT's highway administrator, responsible for the operations, maintenance, and investments on the state highway system. .
