First lady Michele Obama campaigned today Friday for Massachusetts attorney general and Democratic candidate for governor Martha Coakley.

Hundreds of people snaked around the block and into the Strand Theater in Dorchester to listen to Michelle Obama and Martha Coakley. Coakley’s speech focused on policy. She drew the most applause when she referred to the future governor as she.

“And the next governor must be a good partner to the business community.  She must— yes, we like the sound of that!”

Next, the first lady walked on stage, hugged Coakley and stepped up to the microphone. She said the midterm elections are so important, she was missing her wedding anniversary to make this campaign swing.

“So if you all want a governor who will stand up to powerful interests, who are truly on your side, you need to elect Martha Coakley on November 4th.  You need to get that done.”

Coakley is locked in a tight race with Republican Charlie Baker.  Her campaign is trying to fire up the base before the election, and if Michelle Obama isn’t a big enough name, a Coakley staff member confirmed Hillary Clinton is scheduled for later this month.
